Crawler information

StoreLoupeBot

StoreLoupeBot runs technical audits of WooCommerce stores. It checks for indexing problems, structured-data errors, crawl waste and performance issues, and reports them to the person who runs the shop or the agency that looks after it.

Identifying it

It always sends this user-agent:

StoreLoupeBot/0.1 (+https://storeloupe.com/bot; WooCommerce technical audit)

Requests come from 2.28.109.236. Anything claiming to be StoreLoupeBot from another address is not us. Anyone can copy a user-agent string, but not the address.

What it does

  • Requests robots.txt first and obeys it.
  • Reads XML sitemaps to find pages worth sampling.
  • Fetches a sample of HTML pages: the homepage, some products and categories, and the cart, checkout and account pages. These are plain page requests, and nothing is ever added to a cart. At most 250 URLs per site, and usually far fewer.
  • Requests 2 pages at a time with a 500ms pause between them.
  • Requests the homepage a second time, to see whether a page cache serves it on a repeat visit.
  • Requests one address that should not exist, /storeloupe-check-404/, to check that missing pages answer 404. It is always the same path, and robots.txt is honoured for it like for anything else.
  • Stops on repeated errors rather than retrying into a wall.

What it never does

  • Submit forms, or attempt to log in.
  • Add items to a cart, or begin a checkout.
  • Collect personal data, customer records or order information.
  • Probe for vulnerabilities, or request paths not linked from the site, apart from the one 404 check described above.
  • Ignore robots.txt, or use another user-agent to get around it.

It reads public pages exactly as a search engine would, and it reads them less often.

Blocking it

Add this to robots.txt. It takes effect on the next visit, with no need to contact us:

User-agent: StoreLoupeBot
Disallow: /

To block at the firewall instead, deny 2.28.109.236. If you would rather it came less often, email us and we’ll set that up for your site.

Why it visited you

Someone who manages your store asked for an audit or ran a free scan, or your site appeared in a sample we crawl to test detection rules against real shops rather than synthetic ones. A scan or a research crawl visits once. A store is monitored only after its owner has proved they control it, and is then audited on a schedule: usually once a week, never more than once a day. Each visit is small, and blocking the bot has no effect on your search rankings. StoreLoupeBot is not a search engine and does not influence any.
